Otto Kath was shot down on July 19, 1940 and again on July 24, 1941 and survived both times. From March 29, 1941 until February 3, 1943 Oblt. Kath was appointed Geschw.Adj./JG 54. In December 1941 Oblt. Otto Kath was assigned Bf-109-4 W. Nr. 7243 and ended the war with 6 victories. Otto Kath regularly flew as wing man for Kommodore Hannes Trauloft who is credited with 58 victories. JG 54 operated from 1939 until 1945. The unit wore the distinctive green heart emblem.
