The Eurofighter Typhoon is a European twin-engine, canard delta wing, multirole fighter. The Typhoon was designed originally as an air superiority fighter and is manufactured by a consortium of Airbus, BAE Systems and Leonardo that conducts the majority of the project through a joint holding company, Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH. The NATO Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency, representing the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain manages the project and is the prime customer. Primary Role: Multirole Fighter, Air Superiority Fighter.
In 2015 to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain Eurofighter ZK349 was painted and marked to represent the 249 SquadronĘs Flight Lieutenant James Brindley Nicolson VC DFC. On August 16, 1940 NicolsonĘs Hawker Hurricane Mk. I GN-A (P3576) was hit four times by a Bf-110 cannon. Two hit Nicolson and two set fire to the aircraft. As Nicolson prepared to bail out he saw another Bf-110 so he stayed in the burning aircraft until it was destroyed. Nicolson suffered burns to most of his body.
