The Mikoyan MiG-29 NATO reporting name: Fulcrum, is a twin-engine jet fighter aircraft designed in the Soviet Union. Developed by the Mikoyan design bureau as an air superiority fighter during the 1970s, the MiG-29, along with the larger Sukhoi Su-27, was developed to counter new U.S. fighters such as the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle and the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon. The MiG-29 entered service with the Soviet Air Forces in 1982. Primary Role: Air Superiority Fighter, Multirole Fighter.

On April 26, 2012 the Polish Air Force assumed responsibility for NATOÆs Baltic air policing mission while based at LithuaniaÆs èiauliai AB. NATO countries rotate through this mission as part of the NATO defence agreement of the region. The Polish Air Force assumed the 4 month mission from the German Air Force JG71 Squadron and deployed 4 MiG-29s as well as 8 pilots and 91 support personnel. One of the MiG-29s was 4103 (c/n 2960526301/3705) from the 41st Tactical Squadron (41.ELT - 41 Eskadra Lotnictwa Taktycznego) of the 22nd Tactical Air Base in Malbork.
