The Mikoyan MiG-29 NATO reporting name: Fulcrum, is a twin-engine jet fighter aircraft designed in the Soviet Union. Developed by the Mikoyan design bureau as an air superiority fighter during the 1970s, the MiG-29, along with the larger Sukhoi Su-27, was developed to counter new U.S. fighters such as the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle and the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon. The MiG-29 entered service with the Soviet Air Forces in 1982. Primary Role: Air Superiority Fighter, Multirole Fighter.
After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Poland wanted to join NATO and obtain American aircraft but it wasnĘt economically feasible to rid themselves of their MiG-29s. On December 20, 1995 Poland signed a contract with the Czech Republic for 9 MiG-29As and 1 MiG-29UB they had phased out. On December 22, 1995 Czech MiG-29A 29605377 Black 7702, arrived wearing Czech markings. It was renumbered 77 along with new Polish markings but the Czech camo scheme remained. It was assigned to 1. elt (tactical aviation sq.) "Warszawa" / 23. blot (AFB) Minsk-Mazowieck
