Developed by the Mikoyan design bureau as an air superiority fighter during the 1970s, the MiG-29, along with the larger Sukhoi Su-27, was developed to counter new U.S. fighters such as the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle and the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon. The MiG-29 entered service with the Soviet Air Forces in 1982. Primary Role: Air Superiority Fighter, Multirole Fighter.
In 1989 the Polish Air Force began to receive former German Mig-29As. Later in 2003 and 2004 they received eighteen Mig-29As. Among them was 29+14 that is now stationed at the 22nd Tactical Aviation Base and assigned to the 41st Tactical Squadron with serial 4120. In 2018 4120 was painted to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Polish Air Force. On top of the fuselage is a portrait of J?zef Pi?sudski while on the vertical stabilizers portraits of Stefan Bastyr and Janusz de Beaurain, the first to perform a Polish combat flight together.
