The Shenyang Chinese J-11 Flanker-L, is a twin-engine jet fighter whose airframe is based on the Soviet-designed Sukhoi Su-27 air superiority fighter. It is currently manufactured by the Shenyang Aircraft Corporation (SAC). The aircraft is operated by the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) and People's Liberation Army Naval Air Force (PLANAF) of China (PRC). Primary Role: Air Superiority Fighter.
On August 19, 2014 a Chinese PLAAF J-11BH "Blue 24" intercepted a U.S. P-8 Poseidon ASW aircraft over the South China Sea. It is claimed that the PLAAF pilot made several dangerous maneuvers at one point bring his wing tip within 20 feet of the P-8. The J-11BH also passed very close under the P-8, crossed 90 degrees in front with its belly towards the U.S. aircraft as if displaying his weapons. Blue 24 also did a roll over the P-8 coming within 45 feet.
