The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is an American supersonic, twin-engine, two-seat, twin-tail, variable-sweep wing fighter aircraft. The Tomcat was developed for the United States Navy's Naval Fighter Experimental (VFX) program after the collapse of the F-111B project. The F-14 was the first of the American Teen Series fighters, which were designed incorporating air combat experience against MiG fighters during the Vietnam War. Primary Role: Interceptor, Air Superiority, And Multirole Fighter.
VF-71 “Bedevilers” was originally formed as VBF-20 on 16 April 1945 and later became VF-10A, then VF-92 and finally VF-74 on January 15, 1950. This made this squadron the third unit to receive this designation. VF-74 received its first F-14A in June 1983. F-14B BuNo. 162919 was delivered as AA/101 on August 11, 1988 making this first fleet squadron to be equipped with this new aircraft. The Be-Devilers last cruise took place in 1992 and the squadron was disbanded April 30, 1994.
