The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is an American supersonic, twin-engine, two-seat, twin-tail, variable-sweep wing fighter aircraft. The Tomcat was developed for the United States Navy's Naval Fighter Experimental (VFX) program after the collapse of the F-111B project. The F-14 was the first of the American Teen Series fighters, which were designed incorporating air combat experience against MiG fighters during the Vietnam War. Primary Role: Interceptor, Air Superiority, And Multirole Fighter.
F-14A BuNo 162689 was built in 1986 and in 1988 it was transferred to VF-41 ôBlack Acesö and named ôQueen of Spadesö on the USS Theodore Roosevelt as 101 AJ. On December 28, 1990 they deployed to the Persian Gulf and remained there until June 1991. During ôOperation Desert Stormö VF-41 led the first strike against Iraqi forces and locations. By the end of their mission VF-41 had flown 1,500 combat hours and completed 100% of scheduled operations. Next VF-41 sailed to the Turkish Mediterranean coast to support Kurdish refugees.
