The Boeing EA-18G Growler is an American carrier-based electronic warfare aircraft, a specialized version of the two-seat F/A-18F Super Hornet. The EA-18G replaced the Northrop Grumman EA-6B Prowlers in service with the United States Navy. The Growler's electronic warfare capability is primarily provided by Northrop Grumman. The EA-18G began production in 2007 and entered operational service with the US Navy in late 2009. Australia has also purchased twelve EA-18Gs, which entered service with the Royal Australian Air Force in 2017. Primary Role: Electronic Warfare Aircraft.
In 2009 VAQ-138 ˘Yellow Jackets÷ began to transition to the EA-18G Growler. In 2018 the squadron flew to Nellis AFB for Red Flag 18-2 lasting from March 9th to 23rd. The VAQ-138 call sign is ˘Rampage÷. Upon returning to their home at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington VAQ-138 was sent to Misawa Japan from May through December 2018. One of the squadronĂs EA-18G Growlers was 168386 serial G72 NL-510. This aircraft joined the squadron in 2014 and was designated the CAG aircraft in 2015.
