The McDonnell Douglas (Now Boeing) F-15E Strike Eagle is an American all-weather multirole strike fighter derived from the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle. The F-15E was designed in the 1980s for long-range, high-speed interdiction without relying on escort or electronic-warfare aircraft. United States Air Force (USAF) F-15E Strike Eagles can be generally distinguished from other US Eagle variants by darker aircraft camouflage, conformal fuel tanks (CFTs) mounted along the engine intake ramps (although CFTs can also be mounted on earlier F-15 variants) and a tandem-seat cockpit. Primary Role: Multirole Strike Fighter.
The first F-15EX, 20-0001 completed its maiden flight on February 2, 2021, was accepted by the USAF on March 10, 2021 and belongs with the 40 FTS” (40th Flight Test Squadron) at Eglin AFB, Florida. April 20, 2021 saw the arrival of the second F-15EX Strike Eagle serial 20-0002 that belongs to the 85th Test and Evaluation Squadron, part of the 53rd Wing at Eglin AFB, Florida. The USAF hopes to purchase 76 F-15EXs over 5 years and eventually a total of 144 aircraft.
