The Kawasaki T-4 is a Japanese subsonic intermediate jet trainer aircraft developed and manufactured by the commercial conglomerate Kawasaki Heavy Industries. Its sole operator is the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF), in part due to historic restrictions on the exporting of military hardware. In addition to its primary training mission, the T-4 has been used by the JASDF's Blue Impulse aerobatic team as well as liaison duties with most fighter units. The first XT-4 prototype flew on 29 July 1985, while the first production aircraft was delivered during September 1988. Primary Role: Multirole Fighter.
Kawasaki T-4 Trainer 66-5744 ôHawk 60ö, of 31st TSQ, 1st AW, JASDF. The T-4 was designed as a replacement for the aging Lockheed T-33. In 1988 the first squadron to receive the new trainers was the 31st Training Squadron (Kikotai) of the 1st Air Wing (Kokudan) based at the Hamamatsu Air Base. The 31st TSQ is named ôBlue Dolphinö while the second training squadron the 32nd is named ôRed Dolphinö. Hamamatsu Air Base was originally established in 1925. In 1952 it became a flight training school.
