The General Dynamics / Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single-engine supersonic multirole fighter aircraft originally developed by General Dynamics for the United States Air Force (USAF). Designed as an air superiority day fighter, it evolved into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft. Over 4,600 aircraft have been built since production was approved in 1976. Although no longer being purchased by the U.S. Air Force, improved versions are being built for export customers. In 1993, General Dynamics sold its aircraft manufacturing business to the Lockheed Corporation, which in turn became part of Lockheed Martin after a 1995 merger with Martin Marietta. F-16C Block 40 88-0428 MSN 1C-30 was completed in 1989 and assigned to the 4th TFS/388th TFW "Fightin Fujins" and deployed for ôODSö. In 1994 the aircraft was reassigned to the 421st FS ôBlack Widows. In 2010 88-0428 was transferred to the South Dakota ANG 114th FW / 175th FS ôLobosö. In 2016 to celebrate the South Dakota ANG 70th Anniversary 88-0428 received a special color scheme. September was a busy month for 88-0428 because it was deployed to Lask AB, Poland to take part in a bilateral training exercise ôAviation Detachment 16-4ö.
