The General Dynamics / Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single-engine supersonic multirole fighter aircraft originally developed by General Dynamics for the United States Air Force (USAF). Designed as an air superiority day fighter, it evolved into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft. Over 4,600 aircraft have been built since production was approved in 1976. Although no longer being purchased by the U.S. Air Force, improved versions are being built for export customers. In 1993, General Dynamics sold its aircraft manufacturing business to the Lockheed Corporation, which in turn became part of Lockheed Martin after a 1995 merger with Martin Marietta. Primary Role: Multirole fighter, Air Superiority Fighter.
In August 1990 TS-1601 serial 01 c/n 1B-1 U.S. serial 87-0721 was the first of four Lockheed F-16Bís to be delivered to the Tentara Nasional Indonesia - Angkatan Udara (Indonesian Air Force) Skadron Udara 3 (3rd Squadron) "Sarang Naga" ("Dragon's Nest). The aircraft received its grey-green "millennium" color scheme in 2000 which was the new standard colors. On December 1, 2004 TS-1601 ran off the runway due to a brake failure with no injuries. In 2014 the Indonesian Air Force began to receive the first of twenty four F-16C/Dís.
