The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor is an American single-seat, twin-engine, all-weather stealth tactical fighter aircraft developed exclusively for the United States Air Force (USAF). The result of the USAF's Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) program, the aircraft was designed primarily as an air superiority fighter, but also has ground attack, electronic warfare, and signal intelligence capabilities. The prime contractor, Lockheed Martin, built most of the F-22's airframe and weapons systems and conducted final assembly, while Boeing provided the wings, aft fuselage, avionics integration, and training systems. Primary Role: Stealth Air Superiority Fighter.
The 477th FG was reactivated in October 2007 in Alaska as the only Air Force Reserve unit there. This became the Air Force Reserve Command’s first F-22 Raptor unit. In 2011 work was under way to have one of the F-22s painted with “Spirit of Tuskegee” on the tail to honor the Tuskegee Air Men 332 nd FG “Red Tails” and the 477 th BG who flew 1,578 missions and 15,533 sorties, destroyed 261 enemy aircraft, and won more than 850 medals. In 2013 07-4147 became the flagship and was shown with the scheme.
