The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor is an American single-seat, twin-engine, all-weather stealth tactical fighter aircraft developed exclusively for the United States Air Force (USAF). The result of the USAF's Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) program, the aircraft was designed primarily as an air superiority fighter, but also has ground attack, electronic warfare, and signal intelligence capabilities. The prime contractor, Lockheed Martin, built most of the F-22's airframe and weapons systems and conducted final assembly, while Boeing provided the wings, aft fuselage, avionics integration, and training systems. Primary Role: Stealth Air Superiority Fighter.
Originally the 302nd was one of 4 African-American FS to enter combat in WWII. After WWII they became an SAR unit. In 1987 the 302nd mission was changed to a fighter role. The 302nd is an Associate Reserve Squadron that doesnÆt own its aircraft but instead supplies pilots to the 90th and 525th Fighter Squadrons that belong to the 477th FG. In 2007 forty F-22s were assigned to Elmendorf AFB in Alaska with each squadron receiving 20 aircraft. This aircraft 05-4102 is marked in 302nd markings and is the CCÆs (Commander) aircraft.
