The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is a tandem two-seat, twin-engine, all-weather, long-range supersonic jet interceptor and fighter-bomber originally developed for the United States Navy by McDonnell Aircraft. It first entered service in 1961 with the Navy. Proving highly adaptable, it was also adopted by the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force, and by the mid-1960s had become a major part of their air arms. Primary Role: Interceptor, Fighter-Bomber.
Six F-4Es from the 3rd TFS/ 3rd TFW ôPeugeotsö based at Clark AFB, Philippines staged at Hickman AFB on their way to Incirlik AB, Turkey but two had to stay at Spangdahlem due to mechanical problems. On February 22, 1991 the unit carried out it first mission led by F-4E 73-1199 marked as the 13th AF flagship. The mission involved AAA suppression for F-16s flying against Al Mosul. With their mission complete the F-Es departed Incirlik on March 19, 1991 and went directly to AMARC. In 2017 73-1199 was sent to be scrapped.
