C-130K Hercules C.3, 47 Squadron RAF. For more than 50 years, the American C-130 Hercules has proved an enormous success story for its manufacturer, Lockheed Martin. First produced in 1956, the C-130 is a turboprop-powered tactical transport aircraft able to land on and take off from unprepared airstrips. This aircraft, which has been modified continuously throughout its lifetime, is in service with more than 60 countries. One variant is the C-130K, a version built for export to the United Kingdom. The original C-130K of the Royal Air Force (where it’s known as the Hercules C.1) is the equivalent of the C-130E. However, the British later altered their C.1 aircraft by adding an 80-inch plug in the fuselage to increase its cargo volume by 37%. This stretched C-130K version was known as the C.3. In British service, the C-130K performs countless missions such as troop and cargo transport, medical evacuation and airborne assault. The Warbirds range from Dragon has created an all-new die-cast model of the long-body C-130K serving with the RAF. As the first C-130K in the collection, the model makes use of brand new toolings. Attached to the new fuselage is an aerial refueling probe, a device that extends the original aircraft’s range to more than 4,000 nautical miles. With more than 2,300 aircraft manufactured to date, the C-130 Hercules has the longest ever continuous production run for a military aircraft. And now collectors can have their very own RAF version of this workhorse too!

Avro Lancaster B MkI LM220 Getting Younger Every Day 1:72 Scale, NEW TOOLING. As the war neared its end the Germans were concealing more and more of their important facilities underground in heavily fortified and defended positions with targets such as U-boat pens being protected by thick concrete roofs. As early as 1941 the great engineer Barnes Wallis had begun design on a bomb that would be able to penetrate deep underground and then explode. He called it his ‘Earthquake’ bomb, this later became the prototype of the ‘Tallboy’ bomb. Weighing 12,000lbs, the Tallboys were first used against the Saumur railway tunnel in Western France and went on to prove their effectiveness against U-Boat pens, bunkers and the famous German battleship Tirpitz. This particular machine belonged to 9 Squadron RAF, one of only two squadrons that dropped Tallboys. On the night of the 11th January 1945 this machine helped penetrate 3.5m of concrete above the U-Boat pens at Bergen, destroying the intended target. Short Stirling Mk1 Spn Middleton VC, 1:72 Scale. Rawdon ‘Ron’ Middleton, born on the 22nd July 1916 in Sydney Australia, enlisted in the Royal Australian Airforce in October 1940. Middleton was posted to RAF 149 Squadron in 1942 starting as a second pilot before being given command of his own Stirling later that year. His first raid was to bomb the Fiat works at Turin. After a perilous flight across the alps the crew had to overfly the target three times at low level to identify it. In doing so the aircraft was badly damaged by flak and Middleton was seriously injured. Despite being injured Middleton supported his crew in re-directing the aircraft back to Britain promising to get his crew home. When they reached the English coast he ordered the crew to bail out then steered the aircraft into the sea to avoid endangering any civilians. Sadly his body was then later washed ashore. He was later posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for his devotion to duty. Very Limited Qty. Will Be Available So Pre-Order Now, Orders Will Be Taken On A First Come Basis.

Dragon’s announcement of a new Space Collection item at the Tokyo Hobby Show created a huge buzz! The cause was a 1/72 scale replica of a Saturn V rocket. We can’t say it’s a miniature model, for it’s absolutely enormous even in 1/72 scale! Indeed, the fully built-up model stands 1.5m tall (59 Inches). As the longest, heaviest and most powerful rocket ever produced, the original Saturn V stood 110.6m high and had a diameter of 10.1m. The Saturn V was at the heart of NASA’s Apollo and Skylab programs between 1967 and 1973. It was able to launch a 45-tonne payload into space beyond Low Earth Orbit. A total of 13 Saturn V launches took place, every one of them a success, and they safely delivered 24 astronauts to the Moon. As impressive as the real Saturn rocket system is, viewers of this Space Collection item from Dragon will cause jaws to drop and draw gasps of astonishment! While the model makes use of the Command/Service Module (CSM) and Launch Escape System produced earlier, the rest of this monstrous 1/72 scale rocket comes from brand new toolings. All the relevant detail is carefully reproduced on the three rocket stages, and the completed model comes with accurate painting and markings. The Saturn V is most suitable for display at home as a centerpiece of any space fan’s collection. It comes with a stable circular base to allow it to be freestanding on the floor. Impress and be impressed with this fantastic model! FREE SHIPPING WITHIN THE LOWER 48 STATES, OUR CHOICE OF SHIPPING CARRIER. VERY LIMITED STOCK LEFT!!

DECEMBER RELEASE: Gemini Spacecraft w/Spacewalker. Project Gemini encompassed two unmanned and ten manned spaceflights from 1964-66. The NASA program was designed to develop space travel techniques with a view to putting man on the Moon under the subsequent Apollo project. One of the highlights of Gemini IV was the first American spacewalk, which occurred on 3 June 1965. On that occasion the astronaut performed the first ever extravehicular activity (EVA) lasting 23 minutes. All ten Gemini missions blasted off aboard Titan II rocket systems from Cape Canaveral in Florida. Dragon’s newest 1/72 scale Space Collection model commemorates these groundbreaking Gemini spaceflights. The model includes a Gemini spacecraft as well as a spacewalking astronaut. The capsule could carry two astronauts, and indeed this model boasts two crewmen. The craft is based on the Gemini craft previously released (Item No.50385) but it features special modifications. The hatch is shown open, allowing a good view of the interior of the cramped spacecraft. The two astronauts are extremely well sculpted in this scale – one is performing a spacewalk whilst tied to his 8m-long tether, and the other is monitoring proceedings from inside the capsule. Such a legendary scene has been captured poignantly in this fine new model!

Mercury Spacecraft, Friendship 7. February 2012 will mark the anniversary of NASA’s first ever manned orbital flight, which occurred 50 years ago. Dragon is celebrating this auspicious event with a 1/72 scale model of the spacecraft that performed this legendary feat. An Atlas LV-3B launch vehicle blasted off from Cape Canaveral on 20 February 1962 carrying a spacecraft known as Mercury Friendship 7. The flight lasted a mere four hours and 56 minutes, circling the globe three times at a velocity of 7,843m/s before the capsule reentered orbit. The sole occupant of the NASA mission was astronaut John Glenn and the Friendship 7 craft eventually splashed down safely in the Atlantic Ocean. Although the Soviets had performed the same feat the previous year, it was an important step for NASA in the race to put man on the Moon. Today this famous spacecraft remains on display at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. Dragon’s 1/72 scale model depicts the Mercury-6 spacecraft at its launch. The model of call sign “Friendship 7” is accurately constructed and painted, and the correct series of markings are in place. With the miniature model’s release coinciding with the flight’s 50th anniversary, this is the perfect item for space fans to commemorate this important milestone in the history of American, and world, spaceflight.

Apollo 15 ( J-Mission ) Command & Service Module ( CSM ). The fourth American space mission to land on the Moon was Apollo 15, and it was conducted from 26 July to 7 August 1971 after a Saturn V rocket blasted the spacecraft into orbit. NASA described the mission as the “most successful manned flight” up till that point. This was because Apollo 15 was the first of what are described as “J missions”. A “J mission” was one that permitted a longer stay on the Moon’s surface to allow more intensive scientific experimentation and exploration. The Lunar Module (LM) with callsign Falcon stayed three days on the lunar surface and the two astronauts spent a total of 18.5 hours outside their craft over the course of three moonwalks. Apollo 15 also witnessed the first use of the Lunar Roving Vehicle, its top speed of 12km/h allowing the crew to foray much further afield from their LM. Simultaneously, the Command/Service Module (CSM) named Endeavour took a number of readings and photographs as it circled the Moon while awaiting the return of the LM. The latest addition to Dragon’s immensely popular Space Collection is a 1/72 model of the Apollo 15 CSM performing its space mission. The spacecraft has brand new parts, and it’s delivered fully finished and pre-painted so as to be ready for immediate display. A notable visual feature of the model is the distinctive antennas. As well as the steerable S-band high-gain (deep space) antenna for communications with Earth, there is a long HF dipole center-feed antenna. On the original craft, this retractable antenna measured some 80 feet in length. The Yagi seven-element antenna used for VHF communications is also mounted on the CSM. This Apollo 15 model performing its very first “J Mission” will add something special to any collection!

Apollo 11, Command Service Module (CSM), 1/48 true-to-scale precision model. Displayable die-cast spacecraft with high collectable value, Aesthetically pleasing color finish with delicate imprinted markings. Apollo 11 is probably the most famous space mission of all time. It was this specific spaceflight that put man on the Moon for the first time more than 50 years ago. The momentous event occurred on 20 July 1969 as millions of TV viewers around the world watched with bated breath. The Lunar Module (LM) known as Eagle safely landed Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin Jr on lunar soil for the first time. During the 21.5 hours that Eagle rested on the Moon, the Command/Service Module (CSM) was orbiting above with astronaut Michael Collins aboard. The CSM was named Columbia after Columbiad, the giant cannon-shell craft that was fired to the Moon in Jules Verne’s novel “From the Earth to the Moon”. After the Moon landing, Eagle’s ascent stage successfully docked with the CSM before the crew began its return voyage to Earth. Dragon’s Space Collection is now proud to offer a 1/48 scale fully built-up model of the CSM, which comes after the release of the earlier 1/72 version. This larger scale permits a stunning level of detail to be incorporated into the Apollo 11 module, with features such as photo-etched radar antennas. The miniature is fully painted, and metal-skinned parts are beautifully captured. The CSM also carries accurate markings and logos. Thanks to the sleek metal display stand, the model works extremely well as a standalone desktop decoration. The launch of this new 1/48 scale Apollo 11 CSM from Dragon will have space fans over the moon! FREE SHIPPING WITHIN THE LOWER 48 STATES, OUR CHOICE OF SHIPPING CARRIER.

CZ-2F Rocket, Chang Zheng2F Chinese Manned Orbital Carrier Rocket. China is one of the newest entrants in the space race, with ambitious plans to establish a space station by 2020 and to be the third country to put man on the Moon by 2025. The manned orbital carrier rocket that China is currently relying upon for its space program is the Long March family. One of these members, the Long March 2F (or CZ-2F), was the first rocket to put a Chinese taikonaut in space. This proud moment for the Chinese nation occurred on 15 October 2003 when a CZ-2F rocket launched the Shenzhou 5 spacecraft with Yang Liwei aboard. It blasted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre, and the Chinese president subsequently renamed the rocket Shenjian, which means “Divine Arrow”. The 62m-long CZ-2F is a man-rated two-stage design, and it has so far completed eight out of eight successful launches since 1999. It’s a development of the Long March 2E, with structural modifications to allow carriage of heavier Shenzhou capsules (its maximum payload is 8,400kg), plus it has more redundant systems to enhance safety. This rocket represents Chinese technological prowess and the nation’s space aspirations.

Delta II Rocket (7925 Heavy) w/Launch Pad. The USA planned to phase out all expendable launch vehicles (ELV) after the Space Shuttle entered service. However, the Challenger accident of 1986 changed all that, and the Delta program was restarted. Termed Delta II, these rockets have made nearly 150 successful launches since 1989, making it the most reliable system in service. Originally built by McDonnell Douglas, production for both US government and commercial entities is now the responsibility of United Launch Alliance (ULA). As an ELV, each rocket can only be launched once. Among the Delta II’s missions are launching GPS Block II satellites, Iridium satellites, and several Mars missions for NASA. Delta rockets, including the 7000 series that includes both (Light’ and “Heavy) variants, are given a four-digit code depending on their exact configuration. For example, a (Delta II 7925 Heavy) refers to a vehicle that has an RS-27A-engined first stage, nine graphite-epoxy motor (GEM) boosters, a second stage powered by an Aerojet AJ10 engine, and a Payload Assistance Module (PAM) third stage. The “Heavy” designation refers to the fact that the system employs the larger GEM-46 boosters that were originally intended for the Delta III. Dragon Space series has launched a fine model of such a Delta II 7925 Heavy rocket. Made to 1/400 scale, it accurately replicates this common launch configuration. The model is sharply molded and finished in the correct colors. The model also comes with its associated launch platform, creating an instant miniature scene that will impress viewers.

Titan IIIE w/Launch Pad. The Titan family of expendable rockets was extremely successful, with 368 rockets launched between 1959 and 2005. The 48m-long Titan IIIE, sometimes referred to as the Titan III-Centaur, was used seven times. The name Centaur stemmed from the fact that a Centaur-D upper stage was added to boost the system’s performance. This three-stage rocket was instrumental in launching NASA’s two Voyager probes to Jupiter and Saturn, as well as the two Viking missions. The latter put instrumented landers on the surface of Mars. The Titan IIIE was used from 1974-77, with all missions blasting off from Cape Canaveral. Dragon's 1/400 scale model shows an impressive Titan IIIE rocket positioned on its launch pad awaiting blastoff. The pre-painted model is highly accurate and is fully detailed, including the correct markings. It comes with its special high-specific-impulse Centaur upper stage, a totally new part, which gives it a completely different appearance to the Titan IIIC released previously. The model also features two huge strap-on solid rocket boosters. For folk who wish to become more familiar with the Titan family of rockets, this is a must-have item!

Space Shuttle, (Columbia), w/SRB (STS-1) - Memorable Missions of Space Shuttle. The Space Shuttle fleet may have been retired by NASA, but Dragon is re-launching all the craft in miniature form! Although not the first Space Shuttle to be built, Columbia holds the distinction of being the first to fly into space. Designated by NASA as OV-102, its maiden launch occurred on 12 April 1981. In all, the craft spent some 300 days in space, orbited the Earth an astonishing 4,808 times, and traveled more than 200 million kilometers! Columbia performed 27 successful flights before the 28th ended in disaster on 1 February 2003. During re-entry after a 16-day mission, damage to the heat-resistant surface of a wing leading edge resulted in destruction of the wing and the breakup of the entire craft. All seven crewmembers perished in the incident. This second fatal accident ultimately led to the decision to retire the Space Shuttle fleet in 2010. The 1/400 scale model is finely detailed. It comes complete with the large External Tank (ET) and the two Solid Rocket Boosters (SRB) that provided 83% of the thrust needed to launch the Orbiter into space for the very first time in 1981. The complete system for this maiden manned test flight was known as STS-1. For convenient display, the model rests on a new stand. Thus, STS-1 can be vertically displayed as it appeared at launch from Pad A, Launch Complex 39 at the Kennedy Space Centre. This was the opening chapter of the Space Shuttle program, and collectors can commemorate Columbia with this fine model.

Space Shuttle, Challenger, w/SRB STS-41B - Memorable Missions of Space Shuttle. The reusable Space Shuttles designed for NASA and built by Rockwell International were revolutionary in nature and left a lasting legacy in space exploration. The second Space Shuttle to enter service was Challenger (designated OV-099), and it undertook its maiden flight on 4 April 1983. Challenger was the workhorse of the Shuttle fleet, and indeed in 1983-84 it performed 85% of all missions. Its impressive résumé included three Skylab missions, the first Shuttle night launch and landing, and putting the first female American and African-American into space. It successfully completed nine missions before its tenth mission ended in sudden disaster on 28 January 1986. Dragon’s second 1/400 scale model of a Space Shuttle depicts Challenger prior to one of its many significant missions. Named STS-41-B, this flight launched from Kennedy Space Center on 3 February 1984, and it was Challenger’s fourth flight. On the fourth day of the mission, mission specialists Bruce McCandless II and Robert Stewart performed the first untethered spacewalk, operating the Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU) during the process. McCandless ventured 98m from Challenger. The model includes the Challenger Orbiter, External Tank (ET) and two Solid Rocket Boosters (SRB). The STS-41-B model can be vertically mounted on a convenient display stand so that launch configuration can be replicated. This is a finely crafted model from Dragon of a very famous spacecraft.

Space Shuttle (Discovery) w/SRB STS-124 - Memorable MIssion of Space Shuutle. The third Space Shuttle to foray into space was Discovery (designated OV-103), its maiden flight occurring on 30 August 1984. A contract for construction of Discovery was awarded to Rockwell International in January 1979 and it rolled out in October 1983. Interestingly, it was 3,120kg lighter than Columbia thanks to construction savings realized after building the three earlier Shuttles. In its 27-year lifespan, Discovery completed 39 successful missions for NASA. Among its accomplishments was spending a cumulative total of 365 days in space, placing the Hubble Space Telescope into orbit, and launching the Ulysses Probe. It traveled 238 million kilometers through space, in the process orbiting Earth 5,830 times. After such a stellar career, it was thus fitting that Discovery should be the first Space Shuttle to enter retirement, something that occurred on 9 March 2011. As part of Dragon’s re-launch of the complete Space Shuttle fleet in 1/400 scale model form, the third item to be released is Discovery. The actual model portrays the spacecraft as it appeared during STS-124, a flight to the International Space Station (ISS). This mission blasted off from the Kennedy Space Center on 31 May 2008 and returned to Earth on 14 June. On its 35th flight, Discovery delivered to the ISS the Pressurized Module of the Japanese Experiment Module (JEM) as well as an associated robotic arm. The model is finely detailed and is impressive as it’s attached to the enormous External Tank (ET) and two Solid Rocket Boosters (SRB). For convenient display, the whole assembly comes with its own stand. Space fans can now launch their own journey of Discovery with this fully finished model!

U-2

DRW51017
|
Dragon Lady, 9RW, USAF U-2R. Despite its advancing age, the U-2 “Dragon Lady” continues to fly high-altitude all-weather reconnaissance missions for the US Air Force (USAF) even today. Built by Lockheed, the U-2 is powered by a single engine, and its high-aspect-ratio wings and light construction resemble that of a glider. While its particular planform is required by the high altitudes at which the aircraft flies, this also makes it very difficult to operate. Indeed, the U-2 has to be flown at near maximum speed to avert stalling. Landing is a particularly hazardous undertaking as it uses bicycle-type landing gear and titanium skids on its wingtips. It can fly at altitudes of 21,000m, requiring the pilot to wear the equivalent of a spacesuit. The U-2R (initially known as the TR-1A) is a modified U-2C featuring larger under-wing “superpods” and increased fuel capacity. The type first flew in 1967, and the final example was delivered to the USAF in October 1989. It is powered by a Pratt & Whitney J75 turbojet engine, and a total of twelve U-2R Dragon Ladies were built. Various surveillance and intelligence-gathering sensors are carried onboard. This specific variant of the Dragon Lady is the subject of Warbirds’ new 1/144 scale die-cast model. It’s exciting as it’s a brand new design made from completely new toolings. The long, slim fuselage and outspread wings are accurately reproduced. Panel lines are finely engraved on it. With a wingspan of more than 210mm in this scale, this is a truly impressive model. To enable it to be presented to best advantage, it comes with a sleek metal display stand. This high-altitude recon aircraft is rarely seen, but collectors can now get their very own U-2R at desktop level!

X-3 STILETTO
|
DRW51028
|
Douglas X-3 Stiletto, Edwards AFB (Contain 2 replicas). Continuing on with Dragon Warbird’s collection of experimental aircraft is a 1/144 scale model of the X-3 jet aircraft. Developed by Douglas Aircraft Company from 1949 onwards, the sleek X-3 Stiletto was designed for sustained supersonic speeds. The X-3 employed titanium and low-aspect ratio wings, and the first prototype was delivered in September 1952, with the first flight occurring the following month. Eventually a total of 51 X-3 flights took place. However, the pair of Westinghouse J34 turbojet engines was not powerful enough so it never actually reached Mach 1 in straight flight! The effort wasn’t wasted though, as data obtained from the X-3 was used to produce the F-104 Starfighter. The lone X-3 Stiletto is on display at the National Museum of the US Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. The Dragon Warbirds model captures perfectly the sleek lines of this experimental design, and two complete 1/144 scale models are included in the set. One model is a fully finished replica while the other has transparent exterior parts that reveal some of the craft’s innards. The latter model provides aviation enthusiasts with a new appreciation for this futuristic aircraft design. All details are accurately rendered, plus an “S”-shaped display stand made of metal is included. This allows the exterior and interior of the models to be shown off side by side. Only one X-3 Stiletto was ever built, but now Warbirds offers you two!

"DRAGON ARMOUR INJ TYPE 2, KA-MI, AMPHIBIOUS"
|
DRR60583
|
IJN Type 2, Ka-Mi, Amphibious Tank (Combat Version), The 5th Naval Ground Base Guard (II), Saipan June 1944. Dragon earlier produced a simply stunning 1/35 scale Smart Kit of the Japanese Type 2 “Ka-Mi” amphibious tank, and now the company has used it as a platform to create a 1/72 Dragon Armor version. The Type 2 was the first amphibious tank used by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN). It was designed for Japanese landing forces performing amphibious invasions of Pacific islands that didn’t have regular port facilities. Production commenced in 1942 and a total of 184 Type 2 amphibious tanks were made, although the design was really too late to participate in Japan’s island-hopping campaign. When used in water, large pontoons were attached to the glacis plate and rear deck to give it a top speed of 10km/h. These pontoons could be shed as soon as it reached land. The turret featured a 3.7cm Type 1 gun and coaxial Type 97 machine gun. Dragon Armor’s 1/72 scale model is extremely accurate, as it’s based on measurements taken from a surviving tank on Peleliu (present-day Palau). The tank is shown without its flotation pontoons, and it represents a vehicle from the 5th Naval Base Ground Guard (II). This unit was based in Saipan in the Mariana Islands, and it was heavily involved in the pivotal fighting there from 15 June-9 July 1944. Although it’s a very small model, it’s rich with detail. The vehicle’s period “battleship gray” color tone is authentically reproduced, as are the eye-catching IJN flags painted on the turret. This is a swimmingly good miniature of a fascinating subject!

DRAGON ARMOUR CHURCHILL
|
DRR60591
|
Churchill Mk.III, 48th Royal Tank Regiment ""Sprinter IV"", England 1942. The Churchill infantry tank is a most distinctive design with its extremely long chassis and wraparound tracks. Named after the British minister of defense of the time, the Churchill tank was very well armored. It was produced in a series of versions that offered thicker armor and more powerful armament as the war progressed. The Mk.III, weighing in at 39,626kg, arrived on the scene in March 1942. It featured a 6-pounder gun in the all-welded turret, and the hull-mounted howitzer fitted in previous variants was deleted. Its baptism of fire was in the Second Battle of El Alamein in October 1942, plus the Mk.III was also famously involved in the failed landing at Dieppe in northern France. As part of its prodigious output of brand new 1/72 scale toolings, Dragon Armor has issued a model of the Churchill Mk.III. This is Dragon Armor’s very first Churchill, and indeed it’s also the very first British-designed tank of WWII to feature in the series. To create this mark, the correct turret and auxiliary fuel tank are present. It’s finished in an unusual, but typical of the 1942 period, coat of khaki brown paint. This color was known officially as Standard Camouflage Colour 2 (S.C.C. No.2). This tank belonging to the 48th Royal Tank Regiment (48 RTR) carries the name “Sprinter IV” on both sides of the turret. For modelers wishing to strengthen their tank regiments and to get their hands on something British, this “outstandingly brown” Churchill is a must-have item!

DRAGON ARMOUR IJA TYPE 95 & 97

DRR60428
|
CLOSEOUT , LOW STOCK SPECIAL: IJA Type 95 ""Ha-G?"" Light Tank, Co.2, 7th Tank Regiment, Philippines 1942. A scintillating new subject for the Dragon Armor series of 1/72 scale vehicles is the Type 95 Ha-Go light tank, a vehicle widely used in WWII. Weighing just 7.4 tonnes, it was designed primarily as an infantry support weapon. Indeed, it was the most common light tank used by the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) in the Pacific, with about 2,300 units manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. It had a crew of three, and the main armament was a Type 94 37mm gun. Its maximum speed was 45km/h. Dragon’s fully built-up model is brimming with eye-catching detail. From the running gear - with its intricate road wheels, idlers, sprockets and return rollers - to the turret and gun, this Type 95 is extremely accurate. Even the track links are accurately replicated in miniature. The model is finished in the colorful camouflage scheme and markings of a tank that participated in the invasion of the Philippines in 1942. This is an extremely exciting subject from Dragon Armor - the little Japanese tank is a simply stunning creation!

IJA Type 97, Chi-Ha, Early Production, Co.4, 34th Tank Regiment, North China 1945. The 1/72 scale Japanese Type 97 Chi-Ha tank has proved an extremely popular Dragon Armor item. Now Dragon is adding an Early-Production variant to the collection, this time representing a vehicle fighting at the close of WWII. The Type 97 was Japan’s most widely produced medium tank of WWII. Boasting a 57mm main gun and two Type 97 machine guns, this tank was intended to serve as an up-scaled version of the Type 95 for infantry support. Armor protection was modest on this vehicle. A total of 2,123 Chi-Ha tanks were produced from 1938-43, most of which carried the low-velocity 57mm gun. The tank could move at a speed of 38km/h. One area where the Chi-Ha was deployed was China. Dragon Armor’s model depicts a tank belonging to the 4th Tank Company of the 34th Tank Regiment. This regiment belonging to the 1st Independent Tank Brigade was created in 1944; it was one of nine independent tank brigades formed at the end of WWII in Japan and northeast China to act as a mobile force. The 34th Tank Regiment spent the entirety of its short existence in China until the war ended. As well as being an Early-Production version, what stands out most on this model is the striking camouflage scheme consisting of three colors plus bright bands of yellow. Markings painted onto the hull suggest this tank was sponsored by members of the Japanese public, with the characters representing “patriotic”. This attractive item allows collectors to field another Japanese tank from WWII.

Neubau-Fahrzeug Nr.3-5, Versuchsfahrzeuge, Germany 1940. Germany’s first attempts at creating a heavy tank commenced in the early 1930s with a design known as the Neubaufahrzeug (“New Construction Vehicle”). It was not a success, however. Slow-moving and boasting multiple turrets, it was ill equipped for the type of rapid, mobile warfare that Blitzkrieg tactics required. For this reason, only five Neubau-Fahrzeug heavy tanks were ever built, the first two of which were prototypes. However, the three 25.8-ton series-production tanks (Numbers 3-5) that had been manufactured in 1935-36 participated in the 1940 invasion of Norway. They were deployed within a specially formed Panzerabteilung called Pz.Abt.z.b.V.40, but this was the extent of their wartime combat involvement. Their armament included a 7.5cm KwK L/24 main gun, 3.7cm KwK L/45 cannon and two 7.92mm machine guns. Dragon Armor is offering an impressive 1/72 scale model representing the production tanks. Utilizing research and molds from the previously released plastic kit, this miniature Neubau-Fahrzeug Nr.3-5 is impressive in its early-war camouflage color of panzer gray (dunkelgrau). The camouflage scheme is enhanced with white balkenkreuze markings as well as a distinctive number ‘10’ on the rear of the main turret. This is a fine rendering of the NbFz, and it adds to the Dragon Armor items already available.

Panther G Early Production, Eastern Front Autumn 1944 - Black Knight Comic Series. Dragon has produced several 1/35 scale plastic model kits featuring armored vehicles from the very popular Black Knight comic series in Japan. Now Dragon Armor is getting in on the act with an exciting array of 1/72 scale collectible items from the same Black Knight comics. The very first item is a Panther Ausf.G Early Production tank. Utilizing molds from previous 1/72 scale renditions of this famous German tank, the assembled model has been painted in an appropriate camouflage scheme just like the one that appears in the comic books. This model represents a Panther belonging to the Black Knight commander fighting in the Eastern Front in the autumn of 1944. The tank carries the distinctive unit tactical markings of the combat-hardened Black Knight unit. Another special feature of this finely detailed miniature is the dioramic card background fitted inside the display box. The colored scenic backdrop was designed and illustrated by none other than the comic artist Motofumi Kobayashi, which is destined to make this inaugural item an extremely valued item amongst armored vehicle collectors and innumerable Black Knight fans.
